Extreme Cold temperatures can place extra stress on the electric grid. First Energy engineers is monitoring load (usage) carefully, running frequent reports to help identify any potential trouble spots. As always, safety is a priority. At the predicted wind chills, exposed skin can be frostbitten in less than 30 minutes. Stay out of the wind if possible, dress in warm layers, stay dry, take frequent breaks in a warm, dry shelter and drink plenty of non-caffeinated beverages.
As a reminder: customers without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com. Customers should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
